Adobe Photoshop is one of the software programs to manipulate the most popular images of the world and is used by both beginners and professionals alike. One of the functions offered by this program is the possibility of adding text to images and photos. It also offers a variety of sources, beyond those already in the computer. Adding fonts to Photoshop is a simple task, since you only have to copy them to your computer's hard drive. The program will take care of doing the rest.

Add sources in Windows (all versions)

Download the sources from the Internet. You can search online for "free sources" and then simply click on "download" to get the one you like the most. There are hundreds of sites that offer online sources and generally the first page of the search offers many options, which are usually secure.
You can also buy a CD from sources at any computer store.
It is usually easier to save all the sources in a folder on your desk for better organization. However, as long as you know which is the location where you downloaded the sources, it does not matter.

Open a window to see the sources. It does not matter which version of Windows you are going to use. Even in Windows XP, which no longer receives support or updates, it allows you to install fonts. If they come compressed in a .ZIP file, right click and select "Extract". Then it looks for the file of the source itself, looking at the extension (the letters that are after the point in the name of the file). Photoshop fonts come with the following extensions:
.otf
.ttf
.pbf
.pfm [1]

Right click on the source and select "Install." If this option appears, it is your lucky day, when you select it, the source will be installed automatically! You can even press ^ Ctrl + click or Shift + click to select and install more than one font at a time. [2]

If you do not have the "Install" option, use the Control Panel to add sources. Some computers do not allow to install them automatically, but anyway it is to add a new easy source. Click on the "Start" menu, then click on Control Panel. From there, perform the steps described below.
Click on "Appearance and customization" (note: in Windows XP you must skip this step).
Click on "Sources."
Right click on the source list and select "Install new source" (note: in Windows XP, this option is under "File").
Select the sources you want and press "OK" when you're finished. [3]

Search and download your new sources. Search online for "free sources for Photoshop Mac." Hundreds of options will appear that you can easily download and add. Download them to a new folder on your desktop, for example, you can put a name like "Temporary source folder" to store them in a secure location. [4]

2 Close all active applications. Most applications support the use of fonts, which means that they will search on your Mac for the available fonts to use. It is best to install the sources before the programs start looking for them, so make sure all programs are closed before you start work. [5]

Double-click on the current font to open the "Typographic Catalog". The sources can be in a .ZIP compressed folder, which you can open by double clicking. From there, simply double-click on the current font to open it in the typographic catalog. The sources will have one of the following extensions at the end:
.ttf
.otf

When the typographic catalog appears, click on "Install font". Your new .ttf or .otf file will open in the typographic catalog. From there, simply click on "Install Font" in the lower left corner to install the font on your Mac. Photoshop will then search for it and take care of the rest. [6]

Alternatively, you can navigate to the font library in Finder and place the fonts manually. There are two places where you can place the fountains. Both are incredibly easy to find. You can even paste this text directly into the search bar, obviously replacing <username> with your own username. Search one of the two locations. If you have administrator privileges, use the first one. However, either will work. [7]

Click on the new sources and drag them to the folder to activate them. Once they appear there, they will be ready to use them. Open your applications and Photoshop again to start using the new sources.
Tips
Not all fonts can be used in the Photoshop program. Look for "True Type" or "Open Type" type fonts to be sure they will work. With the other types you will have to experiment to see if they work or not in your version of Photoshop.
When you are installing new fonts, Photoshop must be closed. If it was open during the installation, you will have to close the program and reopen it so that the new sources appear.
Oriental language fonts are now available for Photoshop, including Japanese and Chinese. You can use them to create graphic art with them.


Warnings
If you are going to use fonts from a CD, extract them and save them in the "Fonts" folder of the "Control Panel". Otherwise they will not be available for use in Photoshop
